When it comes to wine, there is no ingredient more important than location. The land, air, water and weather where grapes are grown are what make each wine unique. That is why we, as vintners and grape-growers, demand that a wine’s true origin be clearly identified on its label in order for consumers to make informed decisions when purchasing and consuming wine. This ensures consumers know where our wine comes from and protects the sanctity of wine growing regions worldwide.
Since 2005, the Wine Origins Alliance has been a unified force in the global wine industry working to raise awareness about the importance of location to winemaking and the need to protect the integrity of wine region names around the world. Its members include 25 winery and grape-growing organizations in 10 countries spanning North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. These organizations have signed the Alliance’s Joint Declaration to Protect Wine Place & Origin, which is a set of principles aimed at educating consumers about the importance of location to winemaking. Please watch the video below to hear why location matters to wine producers all across the world.
